ADVICE ON BEAM AND ENGINE PLEASE

Im in a predicament and money and time means i cant do anything til the summer but... my bug is too low ( well its ok but one bump on the way to work makes the beam hit the floor oops and i cant go in any fields unless they are flat )

We tried to raise it a bit but the person who put the beam on has rolled it so it will go lower but not higher if you understand that?? This means i cant put my dropped spindles on as the bug would be on the floor!!!! It is a narrowed beam which i love but cant afford a new lowered and narrowed one ( cant really afford a new lowered one!!!) I dont know whether to a. leave it, b. go with just lowered or c. try and get a narrowed one cheap!!!!!!!!!

Engine... 1300 original engine to the bug but it burning oil, filling it every 6 weeks and i only drive about 25-30 miles a week!!!! Can i repair it or do i need to buy a new one or a recon?

There thats all my car related problems

The front beam can be cut and turned again to restore the height, as for the engine,if its endfloat isn't too bad, you could probaly get away with a top end rebuild with new barrels and pistons or it may need a full rebuild. Either way, i would keep the crankcase if its a matching numbers car

Re: ADVICE ON BEAM AND ENGINE PLEASE

When you tried to adjust the beam did you disconnect the shocks?

We have discussed this about the beam its the cheapest thing to do might do it if the beams in good nick, i know the centre nut isnt as thats what keeps sparking on the road

Thanks for the engine advice ill look into it, i def would like to keep the engine as its original

Re: ADVICE ON BEAM AND ENGINE PLEASE

if its fitted with short shocks then it won't make much difference if you relax the adjusters, try again with them disconnected.

if this still doesn't change anything then perhaps changing tyre profile might help?

what tyre sizes are you running on the front?

As for the engine, is it definately burning it (it'd make the exhaust smokey) or is it just leaking? Leaks can sometimes be fixed relatively easily, if its the main crankshaft end seal gone due to end float then i'd just run the engine into the ground as its rebuild time and you may end up needing a new case.

Re: ADVICE ON BEAM AND ENGINE PLEASE

Not sure what size the shocks are or the tyre size but they are small half the size of the back like smart car tyres.
Engines got no end float but it is smoking from the exhaust, but only first thing in the morning

Re: ADVICE ON BEAM AND ENGINE PLEASE

Always best to adjust with the shocks disconnected. If the shocks are too short it'l stop any adjustment being possible. Do you have a pic of the type of adjuster fitted?

Re: ADVICE ON BEAM AND ENGINE PLEASE

Got no pic but its a square adjuster with a threaded bolt with 2 nuts on it, if that makes any sense
