Hi
Due to imminent loss of my garage I have to sell my Bay Panel. Not impressed, but that's life.
So, what is it. A 1978 Bay Panel Van. No MOT, no tax, but not much needed to get it there. Not much at all.
I bought it a few months back, unseen off ebay . And was utterly over the moon when it arrived. It's very solid. Underneath is superb (It arrived on a transporter so I got a good look underneath before it was unloaded).
It needed a couple of bits in the engine welding, which I had done at the weekend. It also needs a bit doing on the front valance (behind the number plate has gone) but this isn't an MOT issue. Either that or you could (shock, horror) fill it.
I've just sourced and paid for a turnkey 1600 twin carb. It's actually still sat in a squareback at the mo, I'm picking it up at the weekend. If you want, I can get this fitted, but I was going to paint the engine bay before I had that done.
Next up, one of the engine deck hinges had rotted through at the mounting. So I've had that redone too, and the deck lid is now on.
Exterior wise, it's up to you if you paint of rat. The van will come with 5 litres of satin red NATO paint and some high denisty rollers. I'll even throw in the paint tray.
Interior the paint is superb, and did cause me some hesitation as to whether to start with the satin red or not. That's why it hasn't been painted yet. It has a home build interior in the back, including a fold out bed. There are no cushions for this.
The seats are there, but not brilliant. I found the passenger seat was partly secured by a bungee cord. So I've bought a very clean pair of Rover 25 seats to have fitted.
The previous owner told me the indicators need looking at. The van currently has a T25 ignition barrel plugged in. The original barrel and key are there, so I don't know why this was done. Shouldn't take much to sort.
The only other things I know it needs for MOT are:
Passenger side outer CV boot
Bumpers (not included)
Check the tyres
Free off the brakes
As your mum used to say, it looks much worse than it is. This van really won't take much to get on the road. A couple of weekends at most. Unbelievably gutted to be selling having got this close to having a bay on the road.
I'm based near Solihull, just off J4 of the M42. You will need a trailer to take the van away.
Cheers!
