No MoT

Oh well Tallulah didn't pass her MoT
She went down on the following;
Parking brake efficiency below reqirements,
N/S/F upper ball jiont excessive play,
O/S/F track rod end excessive play,
and becouse the thing would not tick over!!

Anyone know how hard these are to fix?

One very upset,

Mick T

Sorry to hear that mate. Ive heard the ball joints are a pita. (you got a 20 ton press at work ? )

You could get on with the hand brake though, that sould be easy enough.

track rod end should be easy enough too (well it is on an 03)

tick over is just a case of giving the engine a tune up. that will sort it unless the carb is completely knacked and they are easy to find used.

its not a bad fail at all for the time its been off the road

If you can't fix it with a hammer, then it must be an electrical problem.

That's not bad tbh

tie rod is easyish
so is the handbrake bit
ball joint is a bit more involved as you need to take the trailing arm out of the beam. cheapest way is to get the arm off, ball joint from gsf (same with tie rod) and take it down to nuneaton vw services ner the tip who'll press it in and out nice & cheap.
How long have you got before the re-test?

Steve, I've been out and got all the bits i need today from machine 7.
As for the re-test, I've got seven days from Friday. So it's about a week Monday'ish.

I don't mind having a go at the handbrake, but a bit iffy about the rest
So any advice or help would be great

Thanks for all the help and wishes from everyone so far

Cheers
Mick T

Can't promise as it's a bit manic but will see if I can free up a bit of time one eve this week. I have a spare trailing arm if you want to borrow it to get the new ball joint pressed in which would speed things up a bit.

For the tie rod, start spraying the threaded joint where it screws into the rod with wd40 as they often seize solid

The news in brief: balljoint is now sorted, as is the welding. However, M7 gave him the wrong part for fixing his tierod so he's had to go and change it .

Also, some clueless monkey overtightened the handbrake and snapped one of the cables.
