polo madness!!!!

i had an interesting 2 days working on the car!!! so far i have replaced the centre section on the exhaust, a new fuel pump, new rocker cover gasket, new fuel pipes, a new centre piece on the head gasket!! previous owner somewhere along the line had snapped it off and bodged it!! hence the leaks!! tidied up and dried the boot, re-sealed the rear lights stop the filling up with water! and did the tracking sometime last week. all i need now is to get the brake cylinders replaced as they are also leaking!! so would most probbly need to get the brake pads and shoes also changed!! well i wanted a project car but this is taking the piss!! it apparently passed its MOT 2 weeks ago before i bought it !!! what part of its MOT it passed who knows!!

Oh and i cut my finger in the process but i still love my polo so just wish me luck!!!!

Re: polo madness!!!!

Nice work Ginny

You should have seen my beetle when I first bought it, holes everywhere, framehead hanging off and the O/S sill was attached to the body (barely) with pop rivets, previous owner still got it to pass the MOT though somehow!

Good work on the polo tho ginny, at least you'll know its all spot on and safe and shouldn't need doing again for a while!

I've got a fairly similat list to do on my daily, but just not got the time at the moment!

Where did you take it to get the tracking done? Tis the first job on mine.

Oh dear Gin, it'll come together soon. By the way, have you still got my Max and Paddy DVD? Oh, say hello to your pops.

Re: polo madness!!!!

Not quite sure how to take this post regarding the MOT. It wouldnt have passed if anything was wrong with it. It had a new fuel pump before I bought it, and it had two new rear wheel cylinders fitted when the rear flexi were changed. The car was sold with everything that was wrong with it mentioned that I knew about. The MOT station that carried it out has done my MOTs for years and I am sure Mark would be highly offended by your remarks. You havent even contacted me refernce these matters and yet have posted these comments on a public forum.

As far as I am concerned if you had a problem with the car I would have gladly taken it it back off your hands.

I know no names have been mentioned but anyone who has seen the for sale ad will know where the car came from.

How bad was each fault? From the sounds of it, each thing wrong might not have been bad enough to catch the mot tester's eye.
If the centre section of the exhaust was rusty, but still did its job, if the fuel pipes were corroded, but not bad enough to fail the mot, if the rear light clusters filled up with water, but not enough to short out the lights, and if the brakes still gave good stopping power, and no leaks were obvious to the tester, it would have passed an mot anywhere.
And as for the engine leaks, the only mot-able aspect of an engine is the emissions.

So ok, it doesn't sound perfect, but it doesn't sound like it wrongly passed an mot either.

Re: polo madness!!!!

Thank you Mr Self Destruct. I appreciate your imput

The rear wheel cylinders and flexi pipes were changed for the MOT (Cylinders wernt mentioned an a none fail I changed them due to trouble with blead nipples snaping off when I blead the brakes)and the brakes were then completley re tested on the rollers. There is plus gas all over the rear of the drums and on the unions from where they were taken off. Could this have been mistaken for leaking cylinders?

I knew the weber carb needed re jetting and setting up, but the fuel pump was`nt that old. All this was explained. It passed the emissions with ease

An MOT is a thing that I would never dream of getting done with every detail being picked up. I know of garages that will pass a car for minor faults, I wouldnt take a car to places like this. Selling a car with a 12 month full mot means it has to be right. Thats all I have to say on this matter.
