clutch problem?

I was driving the van home today and there was a funny click when i depressed the clutch, didnt really think anything of it so carried on driving.

Just as i arrived home i've lost all ability to get into gear, it just grinds away and wont go in.

The peddle moves quite freely and doesnt have musch pressure until it is quite far down. I've looked at the clutch cable and it seems to be quite tort though.

I'm not really sure what to look for though

Any idea's as to what the problem might be? Praying its not an engine out job

you need to have a look at the cable at both ends to see if something has broken or slipped.

the adjuster on the gearbox end is a big wing nut that sits in a lever. jack up the rear passenger side and remove the wheel *****PUT THE VAN ON AXLE STANDS!!!!!******

this'll allow you the room to see the cable/arm and the the conduit that the cable runs through. Its possble that the tab that secures the end to the gearbox has snapped. If all looks ok there follow the tube back towards the front of the van, it should be a metal pipe that is welded to the chassis at several points.

if all ok check the cable where it attaches to the pedal, another point where the cable can fail.

If all this seems fine then i'm afraid its engine out as the clutch operating shaft or release bearing has failed.

i've crawled underneath already to look at the adjuster on the gearbox, I think this is what you mean isnt it? (not a very good pic i'm afraid )

It moves back and forth when the clutch is pressed, although it doesnt move a massive distance probably about an inch ish i suppose.

Sounds like the operating shaft doesnt it. I've pm'd mr eddie's kustoms to see if he's got time to have a looksy this week.

supposed to be going to devon the weekend

yep thats it and it looks fine, take a look at the pedal end (you may have to remove the belly pan to see it, as the connection at the front is a loop / hook that can sometimes straighten out which means that the clutch isnt getting fully released.

do you get the crunching / nasty noises when you depress the clutch with the engine running or just when you try and select a gear?

if its the latter then it could jjust be cable related, the former and something is def amiss in the clutch area.

i dont have belly pans so i can see the front end bit quite easily and it all looks ok.

it all sounds fine...until you try and select a gear then it sounds orrible (gears grinding)

Does anyone know someone who can (probably) drop an engine and change the operating shaft this week?
