Re: tdc

remove the rh side rocker cover remove number 1 spark plug
rotate the pully untill both valves are closed on number 1 cylinder, i always continue to rotate the pully untill the exhaust valve begins to open to be sure your on the correct cycle (there are 2 tdc in a 4 stroke cycle)
so now you know your on the correct cycle, rotate the pully back untill the both valves are closed again, pop a pencil down the spark plug hole continue to rotate the engine backwards and the pencil should be being pushed out of the plughole, be carful, the idea of using a pencil is that if somthing gets jammed then the pencil will brake, not the engine, it also means that you could end up with bits of pencil in your engine!
anyway
rotate the engine until the pencil stops mark that position on the pully, now continue to rotate the engine so you have to push the pencil back into the cylinder to get it to touch the piston, now reverse the rotation so that the pencil is being pushed again, repeat the previous process and mark the pully when the pencil stops
half the distance between the 2 marks is tdc

hope this helps!
