help with windscreen in 1303s bug

With it being monsooning with snow over the other side of the mountains we have woken up to scraping the windscreen every morning for the past 2 weeks. My bloke was using an old matalan card which he was fine using, i then bought some ice scrapers from the poundshop. It has totally scratched the shit outa the glass to the point that any moisture on the glass makes it impossible to see. Is it worth me trying the glass repair kits you can buy and if so, other than ebay where can you get these from. I dont really want to get a new windscreen as it being a 1303s curved windscreen ive got a feeling theyre going to be a pain in the ass to find like everything else on this car.

I'd replace it...not that hard really. (if the metal around the screen is good)

Glass repair kits fill cracks to stop them getting worse, they dont really get rid off the chips...

check your insurance
you may have windscreen replacement cover, (you may need it to be broken before it gets replaced?)

Re: help with windscreen in 1303s bug

ah theres no chips, just really really fine scratches. Its fine when its sunny and a nice day but soon as it rains or theres condensation on the window its just horrible. As far as i can tell its a fairly new window as its got new rubber seals around it and doesnt have the original vw mark on it.

It might fail its MOT if your field of vision is obstructed....

well i said that to him cos its fully comp but when i looked it is covered if the window is repaired but not replaced. If they have to replace the window it will cost me the excess which is £250 which i can probably get a windscreen cheaper than that for it off ebay.

Im not sure if they can do a scratch repair service. Ive never really had to deal with any glass people before so i dont really know what they can and cant repair.

Brand new screen from Heritage is £103.95 so dont pay to much for a second hand one. The new one is laminated aswell so much safer than a toughened one.

Re: help with windscreen in 1303s bug

try your insurance or a local windscreen fitter/auto windscreens
you wont pay the full excess if it doesnt cost the full amount
windscreen cover is often seperate from the normal policy as in it doesnt affect the premium,
i know of a blok getting a winscreen fitted this ay - thru autoglass or whoever, for his razor edge ghia
