Re: Beetle Towbar

what are you looking to tow ?

it makes a difference !

you can get tow bars that fit to the bumper

the frame horns

the torsion tube

they all do different jobs

Re: Beetle Towbar

Right well we now own a very small fibreglass caravan called a trident companion, it was originally made to be towed by a motorbike so not too heavy

Re: Beetle Towbar

cool :-)

I'd go for the full kit tho. the one that fits to the torsion tubes. as a caravan is likely to be towed for longer distances and motorways n stuff. Plus, you are likely to load it up a bit with all that available space inside !

is you car in good nick ? had a resto ever ?

dont forget brakes and clutch need to be in top condition too.

The tow bars come up from time to time (as you have found in your searches) even on ebay. Just make sure you get the right one, as some just fit to the bumper mounts

Re: Beetle Towbar

Hi bud, thanks for the advuce on that i will watch what im buyin as i bought one from ebay that the guy said would fit all beetles, its a wide towbar that fits round the engine so that the engine can still be removed?? Its supposed to fit underneath yo the chassis somehow but ive tried several times and none of the bolt holes match up, so now im looking for one that actually fits lol, also my bug is a 67 that was resto'd about 5years ago and is in not bad condition although its showing bubbles through the paint again its got a 1600 twinpot with a progressive, fibreglass wide rear arches sprintstar wheels and a twin tuckaway glasspack exhaust oh and an 11 inch steering wheel which i may need to chamge if im towing lol. I may just redo my brakes and fit a new clutch just to be on the safe side

all seems ok except the exhaust.... Not sure if it will get in the way as it's non standard.

got any pics of the tow bar you've got ?

and pics of the caravan would be cool , just because it's cool
