Location : Hockley Heath, West Midlands
Additional Details : V5C (Logbook),Taxed,MOT'd

RHD S. African bug, MOT end April 2009, obviously tax exempt, first the pics

semaphored small window beetle which underwent a comprehensive resto mid-2006 (by blistered and Eddie’s Customs in Redditch) which involved the following,

panels replaced:
• Front bulkhead panel
• Heater channel bottoms and repairs to the heater pipes themselves (now completely solid)
• Running board mount panel on drivers side
• Rear cross member panels and sill closing panels
• Both rear body mounts
• Both floorpan halves

Floorpan/running gear details:
• KCW 4" narrowed beam (with shock towers & no body mods)
• CB Performance dropped spindles
• Adjustable spring plates
• All new brake hardware (master cylinder, wheel cylinders, shoes, fittings kits) All new brake pipes & flexi hoses
• All new dampers
• New king and link pins
• All new gearbox mounts
• All new rubber bungs etc
• 145/65/15 Continental Smart Car tyres on the front
• 155/15 Firestone F560 tyres on the back
• Wide 5 solids all round c/w spare (all colour coded to the body)

Powder coated components:
• Floorpan itself
• Front beam
• Brake backing plates
• Brake drums
• Spring plates
• Rear driveshaft tubes
• Fuel tank

Powertrain:
• Very strong 12V 1200cc Vege engine on Solex 30PICT-2 carb with 38A dynamo
• full set of new pushrod tubes fitted along with new seals, gaskets, rocker covers and clips during resto. Very dry engine, no leaks (my garage floor will testify )
• J tubes (so no heat exchangers)
• Bosch 009 distributor

Interior:
• Original vinyl seats and 2-tone door cards (dust green)
• Original headlining all there (albeit a bit discoloured from the last 49 years..)
• Driver's sun visor
• No carpets – just as-new black powder coated floorpan

Exterior:
• One year only ceramic green
• Some marks, dings/dents, scratches etc to body but I feel all adds to the authenticity and patina-style of the car
• Rear fender guards & pressed number plates
• Semaphores work fine

Resto-cal type accessories:
• All accessories come with the car except the Firestone swamp cooler in the pics as it took a very long time to find this one
• NOS amber Fulton breezys (from USA)
• NOS HP door tray
• NOS Brexton rear picnic tray (sits over front seat backrest)
• NOS DDR magnetic temp gauge on dash
• NOS East German parking timer (inside of screen)
• Original Wolfsburg bonnet badge
• Original AA member’s badge on rear bumper
• period Wingard spotlight & foglamp (not currently wired up)
• Empi roof-rack
• 2 off vintage pressed Shell fuel cans
• 2 German beer-crates (one full of empty bottles)
• 2 off vintage suitcases (one lined with newspaper from 60’s!)
• Original 50's Roberts radio
• Black Helphos searchlamp (suction not great but lamp works….)
• Vintage (pyrene) fire extinguisher
• 3 off Vintage 50/60’s German maps (2 Bartholomew & 1 Esso)
• Rear bumper-mounted 3rd brake light
• Bullet valve caps & (front & rear) number plate fixings
• Shrunken head on rear view mirror
• Vintage (Solihull!) skateboard behind seat

Misc:
• All bolts replaced with stainless during resto
• Comes with original VW domed hubcaps (not in pics but can be seen in pics in resto thread)
• Comes with some misc spares & docs etc
• Car covered less than 200 miles in last year since purchase, always garaged and never out in rain hence all new parts from resto as still as-new!
• Car flew through MOT this year with no work needed or warnings at all & negligible miles covered since then
• Car only been to 2 shows during 2007 in current resto-cal guise and was snapped (c/w comment) at Dub-Freeze for April 08 Volksworld. Also previously featured in a Russian resto-cal mag (can supply pdf) and in Volksworld pics from 2006 Big Bang (without accessories). So the car definitely has the opportunity to stand out during the remainder of 2008 and the 2009 show season!

Full details and resto pics (panels, welding, powder coating, build-up etc) of the above are in the following resto thread and show the extent and quality of the work undertaken. Similar resto threads also exist on VZi and Restowagen,

In summary a super-solid slammed & narrowed semaphored bug with as-new running gear & floorpan with a nice patina top-hat, loaded with period & NOS accessories.
£4850 ono with all accessories (except swamp cooler)
No px’s please or swaps – want to sell the car outright.

definitely one of those cars in future years I'll regret having sold (& I've only had one other like that) but just time to sell at the moment...

I've had a few queries about selling some of the accessories - I'd rather they all went with the car but I'm not averse to removing them & selling the car without them (appreciating that some people may want to take the style in a different direction, polished rims & buffed brightwork against the patina'd top hat perhaps...)
with that in mind I'll take offers on the car with or without the accessories.
